PUTRAJAYA: The National Sports Day 2020 celebration scheduled for Oct 10 has been postponed following a spike in Covid-19 cases.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican said postponing the event was a precautionary measure that needed to be taken following a rise in infection to protect public safety.
The event was slated to be held at the Sepang International Circuit.
"We advise states, ministries, schools and organisations planning the celebration to also postpone the event to an appropriate date," he said on Friday (Oct 2).
Reezal also reminded sports enthusiasts to practise standard operating procedures outlined by the National Security Council and Health Ministry to avoid contracting Covid-19.
The National Sports Day 2020 celebration was introduced to get more Malaysians to be involved in sporting activities and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
