PETALING JAYA: Doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have set up a mouth-watering clash against Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia in the All-England quarter-finals.
On Thursday (March 12), Aaron-Wooi Yik were in sizzling form as they knocked out Lu Ching-yao-Yang Po-han of Taiwan 24-22,21-17 in a 48-minute second round match.
Top seeds Marcus-Kevin were in a class of their own as they took only 23 minutes to eliminate Ou Xuan Yi-Zhang Nan of China 21-9,21-15.
The Malaysians have played against the Indonesians six times but have yet to win a single match and hopes are high on Aaron-Wooi Yik to upstage their nemesis for the first time.
The match is estimated to start at 1am on Saturday (March 14).
Independent shuttlers Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin failed to join Aaron-Wooi Yik in the quarter-finals after losing 19-21,16-21 to Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin of Taiwan on Thursday.
It was also the end of the road for Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen and Lee Meng Yean-Chow Mei Kuan in the All-England after they crashed out in the women's doubles second round.
Vivian-Cheng Wen went down fighting 23-21,17-21,14-21 to Chang Ye-na-Kim Hye-rin of South Korea while Mei Kuan-Meng Yean lost 10-21,16-21 to Du Yue-Li Yinhui of China.
The only other Malaysian left in the prestigious tournament is Lee Zii Jia and he takes on Chen Long of China in the quarter-finals at 6pm Malaysian time today.
