2020-01-24

GEORGE TOWN -- An Airbus A321neo aircraft operated by Taiwan’s Starlux Airlines has landed at Penang International Airport (PIA) about 4.40 pm yesterday, marking the airlines’ maiden flight to the island from Taipei.

Penang’s Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage exco Yeoh Soon Hin said the airlines’ became the latest international flight to operate at PIA in “Experience Penang Year 2020”.

“I am proud to say that Penang has successfully welcome Starlux Airlines at Penang International Airport, marking the first to many more to come,” he said in a press conference here after welcoming passengers from the airlines’ inaugural flight today.

Also present to greet Starlux’s passengers were the airlines’ chief executive officer Glenn Chai and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd General Manager (Marketing) Mohamed Sallauddin Mohamed Shah.

When met by the media, Chai said, Starlux Airlines launched three simultaneous inaugural flights from Taipei to Penang, Macau (China) and Da Nang (Vietnam) today.

“Starlux Airlines will have three daily flights to Macau (from Taipei), two flights to Da Nang and one flight to Penang respectively,” he said.

Chai said, Starlux’s maiden flight from the PIA to Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport today only recorded 30 per cent in passenger load.

“We just acquired the FAOC (Foreign Air Operator Certificate) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) on Jan 10, so we only had a short period of time to sell our offers,” he added.
